Synopsis
In 1937-38, while the rest of Europe is preparing for war, Patrick Kavanagh sits in his tiny London lodgings writing his memoir of an idyllic childhood and adolescence in the parish of Inniskeen, Co. Monaghan. His is a memoir of beautiful, charming characters with boundless good humour. As Kavanagh tries to recreate his past, he is distracted by an unrequited sexual desire for a servant girl and as a gathering legal storm looms about a libellous passage in his book he faces eviction by his landlady. He is also haunted by an unwanted presence urging him to alter his story - the insistent voice of an older man returned to try to change the course of his own history.
