Walter Macken
When the play opens, Doolin is fighting his alcoholism in a lunatic asylum whilst his family conspire to sell the family business with the aid of an efficiency expert. Struggling with the voices in his head and the temptation to fall off the wagon, he fights to hold on to the business and keep the philandering efficiency expert away from his youngest daughter. Eventually, his family abandon him and he is left with his youngest daughter and two loyal old employees.
