Hugh Leonard
1926 - 2009 
Hugh Leonard was the pen name of the author, playwright and essayist Jack Keyes.Leonard's books include his autobiographical volumes 'Home Before Night'and 'Out After Dark', a historical novel 'Parnell and the English Woman' as well as numerous plays, essays, and screenplays. Up until 2006 he wrote a famously biting satirical column entitled 'The Curmudgen' for the Sunday Independent. He penned over thirty stage plays, the most famous of which,'Da', was awarded a Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award and New York Critics' Circle Award for Best Play in 1978. Having lived most of his life in Dalkey, County Dublin, Leonard died in 2009 at the age of 82.
