Tom Murphy (1)
Tom Murphy was born in Tuam, Co. Galway in 1935. He has written over twenty-five plays and has received numerous awards and nominations, including an Irish Academy of letters award, two Harveys Irish Theatre Awards and an Irish Times/ESB Irish Theatre Lifetime Achievement Award. A major retrospective of his work was presented at the Abbey Theatre in 2001. His work has been translated and performed in a number of European languages. Tom Murphy is a member of Aosdána and a patron of the Irish Theatre Institute. He lives in Dublin.
