ROGER MCHUGH

1908 - 1987

Roger McHugh was a well-respected academic and scholar and wrote numerous articles, books, plays and ballads. He was appointed a member of staff in the English Department of UCD in 1934 and in 1966 he was appointed the first Professor of Anglo–Irish Literature and Drama. His play Rossa won the Abbey Theatre Award for an historical play in 1945.
