Born in Limerick in 1931, Seán Ó Riada is best remembered for having composed the scores for the films 'Mise Éire' and 'Saoirse'. He was musical director in the Abbey for a time and was also involved with the Oícheanta Seanchais that took place in the Damer. His play, 'Spailpín a Rún', co-written with Seán Mac Réamoinn,was produced in the Damer in 1960. He also published short stories and poems in the magazine Comhar, worked as a broadcaster and as an advisor and producer for Gael-Linn and famously founded Ceoltóirí Chualann in Dublin in 1960.
