Born in Dublin, Daithí Ó hUaithne was long considered one of the country's foremost Gaelic scholars. He was appointed Professor of Irish in Trinity College, senior professor in Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies and President of the Royal Irish Academy. He established the magazine 'Comhar' and Cumann Merriman. He wrote the play 'An Dealbh' with Sheila May but his publications are academic for the most part.
