Elaine’s debut play, Little Gem, premiered at the Dublin Fringe Festival winning the Fishamble New Writing Award and a nomination for Best New Play at the Irish Times Theatre Awards before transferring to Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre, where it won the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award. Her second play, Ribbons, was commissioned by the Abbey Theatre for The Fairer Sex, a series of short plays from leading female playwrights. Another Abbey Theatre commission, Shush, premiered in June 2013.

Elaine is also the recipient of the Stewart Parker BBC Northern Ireland Drama Award and a Zebbie for best theatre script from the Irish Playwrights and Screenwriters Guild.

Between 2012-2014, Elaine was a participant in Six in the Attic, an Irish Theatre Institute resource sharing initiative.
