  • Synopsis

Bobby Honeychurch is a very strange little boy. The Great Grand Wizard of Belfast Historical and Magical Society says he's the most talented junior member ever. Things get out of hand at home, however, and Bobby, now renamed The Great I Am, forswears his magic and leaves Belfast forever. Life on his own special desert island seems almost idyllic but the need for companionship catches up with him and he is tempted to use his powers once more. The result of this creative urge brings many difficulties, much anxiety but eventually great joy. The Great I Am is an allegory which uses music, puppetry and masks to examine the growing need of the disabled adolescent for independence.
