Luca

OVERVIEW

  • Playwright

  • Author Notes

Luca was written and devised by Veronica Coburn and Raymond Keane with creative contribution from performers Eoin Lynch and Amy Conroy. The character Luca emerged during the devising process of …tanks a lot! with Raymond Keane and Judy Hegarty Lovett.
  • Synopsis

Luca has a terrible secret. He is in love with Mary Robinson. She is articulate, honest, high-minded and good. Luca and his friends are not. They are pleasure seeking pranksters, mischievous and bad. They are magical creatures of play who travel through space and time at the speed of light. While Luca is attracted to Mary and all that is good his nature is the opposite and all that is bad. His friends are having too much fun in their world unbounded by etiquette to let Luca go. Can Luca break away from his personality and partners in crime? Will he ever get to meet Mary? Luca allows its characters to indulge in everything and anything, wherever and whenever they want. They are free of responsibility, political correctness, consequence and norm. This is a trip along the continuum of good and evil bounded by the polarities of God and Devil, heaven and hell, light and dark. The pleasure seeking trio of Luca finds there is most fun in the dark.
