Sam Shepard
Commissioned by the Abbey Theatre.
Distraught over the break-up of his marriage, Ames telephones his old buddy Byron for support. The two friends get together over a bottle of whiskey and reminisce about old times. Both are desperately lonely; as the evening wears on, the increasingly volatile Byron grows violent and the pair fight. Anger spent, they finally sit together and watch in wonder as the moon eclipses the sun.
