The Civilisation Game

or The Making of a Suburban Myth

OVERVIEW

  • Playwright

    Tim Loane

  • Setting

    Suburban Belfast; the present.

  • Notes

This was the first original new play to be staged in the rebuilt Lyric Theatre.

  • Synopsis

Guy and Roisin have just moved into an affluent middle-class Belfast suburb. Their ‘baby-making’ activities are disturbed by Robbie, a young burglar. They have him cornered and could call the police but what’s the point if he’d just get a slapped wrist? Neighbours Peter and Amanda then arrive with their own entertaining ideas of crime and punishment. For one night the couples can do what they please with Robbie. In turn, Robbie unleashes his own private riot on a perfect world and exposes the social and moral flaws behind the cosy exterior.
